The nightcap in the CONCACAF Gold Cup Quarterfinals features Mexico and Honduras from University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona tonight at approximately 10:30 PM ET. These two just played each other last month in the WC qualification match.

Mexico Retains Original Lineup For Quarterfinals

Mexico is playing with basically a second string team as they made the decision to use the stronger starters in last month’s Confederations Cup. Mexico is a large favorite and the line will most likely go up as most people feel they are going to win this tournament.

Mexico has decided that they will not call up any new players for the quarterfinals. They will run with the same original 23 players on the roster from the beginning of the Gold Cup.

Honduras Have Not Scored A Goal In Gold Cup!

Honduras will have nearly an entire week off before playing this game. They will need that time off to hopefully figure out a way to score goals. Honduras has yet to score a goal in the CONCACAF Gold Cup. They went to a draw with Canada 0-0 and lost to Costa Rica 1-0. They also posted a draw against French Guinea but due to the fact the they played with an ineligible player, the team from Honduras was awarded a 3-0 win.

Reality is Honduras is ecstatic to be playing at this point in the game and know that they wouldn’t be playing in the quarterfinals had it not been for the ineligible player. They haven’t won a game in their last 8 games and have won only 1 times in the last 9 tries against Mexico.

Low Scoring Game Expected In Arizona

Honduras didn’t really score any goals and the 3 that they were awarded were because their opponent played with a ineligible player. They simply aren’t a good offensive team. With that being said, their defense isn’t bad as they only allowed 1 goal in 3 games. Honduras has failed to score a goal in their last 5 meetings against Mexico.

Mexico is a young team and aren’t improving their roster, being satisfied with the team that has went 2-0-1. I think this game will be a very low scoring game with Mexico most likely squeaking out a 1-0, maybe a 2-0 win over Honduras. Pick: Mexico vs. Honduras Under 2.5 at -138 for 1.5 units
