NCAA Football Preview: Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at North Texas Mean Green

We’ve got ourselves some college football action on Thursday night. The action features the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs against the North Texas Mean Green. This is a battle between two teams in the Conference USA West Division. Both teams are coming into the game with a 1-1 record. Louisiana Tech lost in a blowout at Oklahoma, and then bounced back with a win at Louisiana-Lafayette. North Texas lost at Texas and then came back home and blasted the Mustangs of SMU. Both of these teams feel they have a shot to compete in the conference standings, especially in a weak West Division.

The Mean Green of North Texas have had two opposite games so far in 2014. In the blowout loss to Texas, they scored just 7 points, but then last week, they poured in 43. The Mean Green have been a terrible passing team; averaging just 61 yards per game. The quarterback; Josh Greer has completed just 11 of 23 passes for 94 yards. North Texas running back Reggie Pegram has rushed 36 times for 131 yards and a touchdown. In the most recent win; the Mean Green forced five Mustangs turnovers, and held them to just 10 yards. It also cost head coach June Jones his job, as he resigned.

Things have been pretty similiar for the Bulldogs of Louisiana Tech. After their blowout loss to the Sooners, scoring just 16 points, they came back with 48 in game two. Through two games, the Bulldogs have averaged 243 passing yards and 146 rushing yards. The individuals in charge of the offense for Louisiana Tech have been quarterback Cody Sokol, who has completed 44 of 69 passes, for just shy of 500 yards and 4 touchdowns. The defense for Louisiana Tech needs to be improved; as they rank 101st in all of college football, allowing 34 points per game.

This should be a pretty entertaining game in the world of college football. North Texas is at home, and are the slight favorite in this one. Don’t let the Mean Green win over SMU fool you, the Mustangs are awful. We actually feel that the road team is more talented in this one. We are going to bet the road underdog in this game. We are taking Louisiana Tech +3.5 over North Texas on Thursday night.
