AFC Championship Betting Pick: Steelers vs. Patriots – Jan 22, 2017

Get our free betting pick for the 2017 AFC Championship Game between the Steelers and Patriots.

The AFC Championship is Sunday evening with a 6:40 PM ET kickoff from Foxborough, Massachusetts at Gillette Stadium. The New England Patriots will take on the Pittsburgh Steelers in a battle of AFC Powerhouses.

In the regular season, the Steelers own a 13-8 win/loss record over the Patriots but in the postseason, the Patriots are 3-1 over the Steelers. The Patriots have outscored the Steelers 99- 58 in the postseason.

Patriots Look To Defense To Win Championship

The New England Patriots are making their 6th consecutive appearance in the AFC Conference Title game with the hopes of playing for their 5th Super Bowl Ring. The Patriots have played in 12 AFC Championships, with their last AFC Title coming in the 2014 season.

This year, the Patriots are 14-2 overall and 13-3 ATS. 6 of their games have played over the total and 10 of their games have played under the posted total. They are coming into this game off one of their worst performances of the year against the Houston Texans but neither here nor there, they won and will be playing for the AFC Conference Crown.

They beat the Texans 34-16 in a game that they looked sluggish out the gate on offense but thankfully for the Patriots, the Texans offense looked worse.

Against the Texans, Tom Brady was 18/38 for 287 yards with 2 touchdowns and 2 INT’s to match his season total in interceptions. The Patriots are averaging 27.6 points per game on offense, which is 3rd best in the NFL.

On defense, the Patriots look very good. In the game with Houston, 13 of their 16 points came from turnovers so you can’t put that on the defense. For the entire year, this defense has been stout only allowing 5 of the 16 teams in regular season to score more than 20 points.

The defense is only allowing teams to score 15.6 points per game, only allowing teams to pass for an average of 237.9 yards and are very stingy on the ground only allowing 88.6 yards per game rushing.

Pittsburgh Steelers Back in the AFC Title Game

The Pittsburgh Steelers will be heading back to the AFC Conference Title game for the first time since the 2010 season when they beat the New York Jets 24-19 to go on to play in the Super Bowl. The Steelers have appeared in the AFC Championship game 15 times, more than any other team in the NFL.

Last week, the Pittsburgh Steelers went into freezing Kansas City and won a close, low scoring game by score of 18-16. The main form of offensive points for the Steelers was Chris Boswell, their kicker! Boswell hit 6 field goals throughout the night and was the only offensive points the Steelers scored.

The Steelers only other shining star on the night was running back Le’Veon Bell, who completely destroyed the Chiefs. Bell rushed 30 times for 170 yards!

Patriots Defense Too Much For Steelers Offense

The Steelers are playing great football right now but their offense will need to score more points to be competitive against the Patriots. Don’t get too wrapped up in the fact that the Patriots looked bad last week.

Chalk it up as a bad performance and move on! Bill Bellichick will have these guys ready to play and I am looking for a close victory in favor of the Patriots! I think the Patriots win this game off defense and go on to Super Bowl “LI”.

The official AFC Championship play is NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS -6 at Bookmaker as a 3* STAR play!
